Striebel, T.: Granite caves at the Prinzenfelsen, Fichtel Mountains
Summary
Five caves in granite rocks with total lengths between 6 m und 9 m
are discussed. The caves are located in a so-called tor. Tors are
relictical forms of tertiary spheroidal weathering and removal of
the grit of granite in Pleistocene. The morphology of the caves is
similar to those caves in boulder streams or rock-streams, but it
is important to distinguish these two genetic types of caves. A
discussion of greater extension on genetic and morphologic aspects
with a classification of caves in forms of spheroidal weathering
will be a subject of a paper later on.
