Summary
 
This paper presents some sandstone caves in the surroundings of Bayreuth, North Bavaria. Genetic aspects of the caves are reported only in a short manner. This topic will be a main subject in a paper presented later on.
 
In the area of the map 6035 Bayreuth fourteen caves in upper triassic (Rhaetium) - lower liassic (Hettangium) sandstone are now documented. Documentation started in 1984. The longest cave presented, called "Hohler Stein bei Forkendorf" (Hollow Stone near Forkendorf), has a total length of 23 m.
