At the beginning of the eighties several cavers had been involved in doline registration. More than 1,000 dolines, mainly in the region known as the Swabian Alb, had been surveyed. The results had been transfered to the local nature conservation authorities, but were not archieved at a central location. The newly-formed Baden-Wuerttemberg Doline Registration is attempting to re-obtain this data and to archive it, together with new surveys, with the help of a computer database system. This work is currently at an early stage. For details see the annual statistics of 1997 and 1998.
